After taking more than a month off from food blogging, during which time Kev and I moved from Chicago to Eastern Canada, had a 2 week holiday in Cape Breton, headed out West for a celebration in BC to kick off his graduation from Medical School, then skipped over to AB and home to the farm to get ready for a yoga retreat!!! We still have another month of travel, and 2 more yoga retreats to go before we settle into our new home in Halifax, but now seemed like as good a time as any to get back on track with recipes!
What better time to start sharing food thoughts again after spending an amazing long weekend retreat with 20 people, all gathered together on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River celebrating the arrival of summer with four days of yoga, meditation, dancing, drumming, singing, creating, sharing and of course, eating!! It was said many times over the weekend that it is remarkable how quickly a group of relative strangers can build a community of trust, laughter, friendship and connectivity. I feel immense gratitude to everyone who attended the retreat and gave their time, energy and willingness to push their comfort zones and to the wonderful team of facilitators that brought us together for this fantastic weekend!
Here are all of the recipes that I used over the last 4 days, please keep in mind that these are all scaled to feed 20 hungry people and that there are no instructions included. If you would like additional information on any of them please don't hesitate to contact me and I am happy to help!
Four Days of Retreat Recipes!
People often ask me what my cooking 'style' is and I always struggle to explain it because it is so broad. The best summary is that I will cook anything as long as it is delicious, healthy and wholesome. That means free of chemicals, preservatives, additives, and byproducts. It also means everything in moderation, just because coconut oil is healthy does not mean we should add it to everything! Just because honey is a sugar does not mean we can not have it once in a while! You will not find any dry, bland, cardboard reminiscent food here, healthy can still be crave worthy! There is everything from gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, organic, local, and season recipes here, I hope you find something tempting!
